The Norwegian Railway Museum enjoys a beautiful location by lake Mjøsa, just north of Hamar town centre. In addition to modern, indoor exhibitions, the museum has a large museum park featuring various railway buildings and track systems. During summer, a narrow-gauge steam train operates in the park. The main building comprises a large library with railway literature and a photo collection, as well as a children's playground with a model locomotive. The Norwegian Railway Museum was established already in 1896 (!) and is thus one of the very oldest railway museums in the world.
